A few years ago, I used to have the same last 7 digits of a phone number, but different area code as someone in my city who was probably in his college years (I was late 20's / early 30's), an happen to have the same first name as me. I can tell you this led to more than one confused phone calls.

First few months after I figured out what was going on - it was kinda funny, then it started to get a little annoying. Calls on weekdays at 3-4AM from dr..nk kids looking for their buddy or something. Sometimes I'd get in arguments with these
  • 05
people trying to tell them they've got the wrong person, only for them to call back a few minutes later-still dr. nk, still dialing the wrong number. I was able to block some numbers, but I'd then get calls from others numbers an so on.

After one particularly nasty call I decided if they were gonna keep waking me up, I'd get even. See I had to get up at 7-8AM for work each day. So when I got woken up, or called multiple times by the same person at 3-4-5AM, I took it upon myself to call them in the morning to make sure they got home safe - or something like that. Most of thet

time they wouldn't pick up on the first call, I mean I can't blame them right?! They were up just a few hours ago! So I'd go brush my teeth, maybe make breakfast an I'd call back a few minutes later, long enough to let them doze back off if first call had woken them up an they ignored it. This would rinse an repeat until I got someone

on the line usually it was an extremely groggy "oh god i'm hurting so bad" hello, or a pi ed off who the #@$% is this at this hour, that sorta thing. I would give them my first name (which is apparently someone they know cause they were looking for 'em last night), an tell them I was outside ready to drive them to work - hurry their a es up! Then hang up an block the number.

Then I'd go about my day chuckling to myself about that poor person being awoken out of a slumber only to suddenly think they were late for work, an wonder how long it took them to figure out what was going on. The number of late night wrong number calls died down considerably after a few months of that.

TenebrousSunshine 2d ago I used to have friends who would call/text 2-3AM. So I would return their call/text at 7-8am when I woke up. Even though I keep my phone in DND between 9pm- 6am so their calls didn't bother me at all. People learned REAL quick when not to contact me unless it was major. ↑ 58 ↓ Reply Share

Grouchy-Ad4338 • 2d ago Hahaha. This is indeed a great one. I suppose that the caller ID or the last caller function would have given you their numbers. Just wondering that if they ever called you after sobering up wondering that what was it about when you called them? I mean after they have checked and found no one waiting for them downstairs that is.

UpDoc69 1d ago ● About 30 years ago, when I had my first cell phone, I used to get dr. nk calls at 2:30 or so in the morning. It was always different men with heavy accents asking for Esmeralda. I finally worked out she was reversing the last 2 numbers, or the men were doing it by mistake. I started giving out the number instead of my own to salespeople. Didn't take long before the calls stopped. 48 ↓ Reply ↑ Share

Sha-Nanegins • 1d ago LOL. When I was growing up, all the phone numbers in our town had one of two prefixes - e.g., all the phone numbers either started with 281 or 253. Our phone number had the same last 4 digits as the physical therapy department at our local hospital, but started with 281 instead of 253.

I cannot tell you how many phone calls we got from people wanting to schedule or reschedule a physical therapy appointment. Most of the time, it was a minor annoyance and people would politely apologize for dialing the wrong number. But there were a good many

who wanted to argue and were terribly rude to my mother, insisting that they knew di. n well they had called physical therapy, and how dare she tell them they were wrong! At which point, my mother would meekly apologize, and schedule them an appointment. ↑ 10 ↓ Reply 1 Share

sueelleker 2d ago They probably complained to their friend, who of course denied it, and asked what number they were phoning. "Wrong area code you ****!". 4 4 Reply ↑ Share
